This is why they call pen 'Biro'

Image
Before 1938, the usual style of pen in use was the fountain pen.     A fountain pen. A fountain pen according to Wikipedia is 'a nib pen that contains an internal reservoir of liquid ink. The pen draws ink from the reservoir through a feed to the nib and deposits it on paper via a combination of gravity and capillary action. Filling the reservoir with ink may be achieved manually, via the use of an eyedropper, syringe or a vacuum to transfer ink directly through the nib'.  The pen was efficient but has liquid ink which takes some time before it can dry up on paper during usage. There was need for improvement and in 1938, a Hungarian named László Bíró sold firstly a new type of pen that has a thicker ink that could dry faster on papers, the 'ballpoint pen'.     A ballpoint pen. CHECK YOUR BUTTON

Image
The origin of button could be traced back to 2000 BC when it was mainly used as ornaments for decoration of clothings but the actual use of buttons as fasteners and closing-up of cloths started in the 13th century in Germany. It will be somehow surprising to hear that buttons on male and female clothings are not placed on same side. The buttons on male clothings are placed on the right while that of female clothings are placed on the left. Why? It is a historic tradition for men to put their sword by their left hand and use right hand to draw it out when the need arise. To make this possible and easy, male coats and other clothings that requires button, have their buttons on the right so that the left hand side of the shirt will lie on the right hand side and make it easy for drawing of sword. This became more beneficial even at the invention of guns and made male gun carriers to put their small guns on the left hand side under their coats, suits or shirts. The buttons on female clothi...

George Orwell and 1984

Image
Happy Birthday to one of my favorite authors, George Orwell. Mr. George Orwell was born in India on 25th June, 1903 but was a British citizen who wrote the famous novels 'Nineteen eighty-four and Animal farm'. Mr. George sadly died on January 21, 1950 at just 46 years. This famous piece named 'Nineteen eighty-four' is the origin of the famous phrase "Big Brother". In the novel, a certain leader of Oceania named Big Brother is believed to see whatever the citizens were doing, no matter the level of secrecy applied. This total surveillance as depicted in the novel, kept the citizens in absolute fear because for whatever you are planning to do, it is believed that Big Brother will surely see you. Today, TV reality shows like 'Big Brother Naija' and 'Big Brother Africa' are showcasing the lines created by George Orwell in that famous novel(1984), whereby every action by contestants in those reality shows are seen by an unseen but heard 'Big Bro...
