CHECK YOUR BUTTON

The origin of button could be traced back to 2000 BC when it was mainly used as ornaments for decoration of clothings but the actual use of buttons as fasteners and closing-up of cloths started in the 13th century in Germany.

It will be somehow surprising to hear that buttons on male and female clothings are not placed on same side. The buttons on male clothings are placed on the right while that of female clothings are placed on the left. Why?

It is a historic tradition for men to put their sword by their left hand and use right hand to draw it out when the need arise. To make this possible and easy, male coats and other clothings that requires button, have their buttons on the right so that the left hand side of the shirt will lie on the right hand side and make it easy for drawing of sword.
This became more beneficial even at the invention of guns and made male gun carriers to put their small guns on the left hand side under their coats, suits or shirts.

The buttons on female clothings appear on the left as a result of historical practice where wealthy queens and queen mothers, who could afford the use of buttons when it was firstly invented as cloth fasteners had servants who dress them up. For easier dressing, the buttons were placed on the left while the right hand side of the coats, suits or shirts bears the button holes, so that a right handed maid standing on the opposite direction(facing the queen) can easily fasten the queen's coat, suit or shirt.

This grew to this present time as a normal fashion style and as well still serve the earlier purpose when it was started. Although today both male and female soldiers or security personnel carry guns too but the buttons side are still not the same.
