Biafra Heroes remembrance day.
We will always remember. The great deeds of gallant men and women will never go in vain.
I am not a die hard pro-Biafran but I am a lover of justice.
Aside from the Nigeria-Biafra war, what about the over 30,000 easterners killed in 1966 pogrom?
What about the over 1 million easterners that fled the northern part of the country to save their life? Many died on the way, many had their arms or legs amputated, they all lost their belongings.
Where then is security of life and property?
Where then is peace and progress?
The story could not end without the mention of the genocide of 1967 to 1970.
What then did innocent children and women commit, that the government of Nigeria will ban the supply of food relief to the Biafrans during the war. Hunger truly is a weapon of mass destruction in wartime. Millions died of hunger and the food culture of the Igbo nation was changed during the war whereby people then started eating abominable foods just to survive. Foods made brothers became enemies, hunger tore the social and traditional system.
What about Asaba massacre?
Who then did we offend?
What about the post war scene where they said "no victor, no vanquished" but the victims were still bleeding?
They said "20 pounds for every account holder" but all were in vain. It also created more pain!
Arise o' compatriots, which call are we going to obey?
Today we shall obey the call of our heroes and forgive but will still remember.
Rest in Peace to Bruce Mayrock, the 20 year old young man who set himself on fire infront of United Nations headquaters, just to show his grief about the genocide meted out on Biafrans.
We will always remember!
